Consider spreading the good news. On a Sunday morning, it’s simple to imagine a pastor preaching the God’s word to the congregation. However, we are all called to preach the good news of God in Christ through our baptismal covenant. Not only the pastor, but all of us. And not just once or twice a year. Even as the disciples did in the scripture, we are expected to announce the wonderful news day after day, without pausing.
What does it take to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as God’s good news? Christians have stories to share as the Church, both collectively and individually. Through the saving deeds of Jesus Christ, we do have stories about God’s presence in our lives. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are more than just a Bible story. It’s rather the narrative of our existence and what gives us life. We just share how God works in our lives with others. We tell the story that helps to shape our own.
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. – 2 Timothy 4.
